New Pi Kappa Alpha
Chapter Recruitment Incentives
Pi Kappa Alpha is excited to announce the implementation of chapter recruitment
incentives for all Pike chapters and colonies! Beginning during the 2007-2008 academic
year, Pi Kappa Alpha will begin rewarding those chapters that make Quality Growth a
priority.
Recruitment Incentives:
| Level 1 |
Groups that achieve a 20% increase over the
previous years initiation total with a minimum of 20 initiations will receive an
official Fraternity flag. |
| Level 2 |
Groups that achieve a 30% increase over the
previous years initiation total with a minimum of 20 initiations will receive an
official Fraternity flag and $200 to be used towards Pike University Leadership Summit
registration fees of new members for the next summit held in that chapters region. |
| Level 3 |
Groups that achieve a 50% increase over the
previous years initiation total with a minimum of 20 initiations will receive an
official Fraternity flag, $200 to be used towards Pike University Leadership Summit
registration fees for the next summit held in that chapters region and free
registration for the chapters recruitment chairman at the Fraternitys next
summer event (The Academy or Convention) or the Chapter Executives Conference. |
In order to be eligible for recruitment incentives, chapters must have a $0 balance to
MHQ by June 30, 2008. Initiation numbers will be calculated from July 1, 2007 through June
30, 2008 and all incentives will be presented at Pike Universitys summer event.
Need Recruitment Help?
Get a head start on fall recruitment by taking advantage of the professional help
offered by Memorial Headquarters staff. MHQ employees are industry experts in all areas of
fraternal programming, including recruitment, and would be happy to assist with any issue
a chapter might be facing.
In addition to the assistance offered by consultants and directors while in Memphis,
each year over 40 specialized recruitment developmental visits are facilitated at Pike
chapters throughout North America. These intense, three day recruitment visits provide the
necessary tactics and strategies for a chapter to excel on any campus and in any
situation. 77% of chapters who received a recruitment visit during the 2005-06 school year
experienced an immediate increase in the number and quality of men recruited.
To request either a recruitment visit or recruitment advice, contact Director of Growth
and Marketing Tom Olsen at tolsen@pikes.org.
Chapter and Brother News
Pi Kappa Alpha's Over-the-Summer Highlights.
| Dr. Larry Lunsford (Tennessee, Zeta
71) was awarded the Order of Fraternity Excellence Award from the
Fraternity Executives Association. This award is presented to a college or university
administrator who has attained a level of professional accomplishment, relating to the
college fraternity, which is of such excellence as to merit signal recognition by the
Association. Since 1984, the award has only been presented twelve times prior to Dr.
Lunsford receiving it, and he is the first member of Pi Kappa Alpha to have been honored
with this award.
From left: Matthew Goodman (Vermont, Lambda Delta 06) and Andrew
Shubin (Washington, Beta Beta 06) met while attending the Undergraduate
Interfraternity Institute, a leadership conference sponsored by the NIC.

William Quinn, a 2006 initiate from Kappa Upsilon Chapter at American University,
inspired by the passing of the 4th anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq War, created a
fundraising drive called "Bringing Home to the Troops." The purpose was to
create care packages to send to U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Along with
his fellow brothers and other helpful students, they planned and coordinated drop-off
points around their campus for people to donate goods and money for the packages. In all,
$300 and numerous items were raised in a matter of weeks to cover package contents and
shipping costs. Twenty-two packages were created and sent to eleven troops from the
Marines and Army. The success the event created convinced the chapter to continue doing
this, making it a bi-annual event. More packages are planned to go out again for the
winter holidays.

Delta Nu Chapter at Wayne State
University continues with their second summer recruitment since last summer
proved to be so successful for the men. The men finished the spring semester with a 3.16
GPA, the highest of any student organization on campus. In April 2007 the chapter
sponsored the first annual Alumni Dedication Drive and Alumni Open House. They appreciate
all of the alumni who participated and provided for the chapter. During the 2006-2007
academic year the chapter finished with over 3,500 combined service hours. They committed
most of their philanthropic efforts to organizing and working the Up Till Dawn event. The
event immediately raised $26,000 and pledged donations will continue to come in through
October.
Alpha Omicron Chapter at Southwestern University was
recognized by the university as the Most Outstanding Student Organization during the 2006-2007 academic
year. In addition, Daniel Webb 05 received the award for Outstanding Junior Leader,
and Mitch Barnett 04 received the award for Outstanding Senior Leader. Mike Rossman
69, their dedicated chapter advisor for over 30 years, was named Advisor of the
Year. The Pikes also demonstrated leadership in the classroom and on the athletic field,
with a 3.21 GPA last fall, and they won the intramural trophy for the sixth time in a row
and the thirteenth time in the last fifteen years. Alpha Omicron Chapter hosted valuable
leadership events on campus that included Leadership Luncheons and a series of
pre-professional nights. The luncheon speakers included gubernatorial candidate Chris
Bell, United States Congressman and Alpha Omicron alumnus Pete Sessions 76, and
Texas Supreme Court Justice David Medina. The events, which offered insight into what
being a leader is all about, were open to all students, faculty and staff. The
pre-professional nights, hosted at the Pike house and open to all students, included
experts in the fields of business, science/research, law, medicine and education. The
brothers of Alpha Omicron have committed themselves to excellence in leadership both on
campus and in the community. During the year they organized events to benefit the
American Cancer Society and United Cerebral Palsy. The men look forward to the upcoming
academic year and to continuing their dedication to the four ideals of Pi Kappa Alpha:
scholars, leaders, athletes and gentlemen.
